Brainerd Child Profiles

TYLER B:  Tyler is an eight-year old youngster who lives with his mom but also spends a lot of time with his grandparents.  He is a 3nd grader.   Some of Tyler’s favorite activities include camping, basketball, soccer, bike riding, skating, bowling, walking, fishing and playing yard games.  He also loves to go to parks to play.  Tyler is friendly and outgoing.  He may be a little shy at first, but it doesn’t take him long to warm up to someone.  When asked what his adult partner should be like, Tyler stated, “He should be perfect!”  Tyler has been waiting since January of 2010.

 LINDSAY C:  Lindsay is a 10-year old 5th grader.  She attends Forestview School and lives in Baxter with her grandparents.  She is a talkative, friendly youngster who loves to get out and do things.  Her favorite subjects in school are gym, art and music.  Her favorite things to do for fun include camping, bike riding, swimming, fishing, drawing, painting, playing yard, video and board games, arts and crafts, singing, dancing and listening to music.  An ideal partner for Lindsay would be a younger, middle-aged woman who likes to be active and has many interests.  She has been on the waiting list since June of 2011.

 JONATHON D:  Jonathon is a nine-year old who attends Harrison School.  He is a pretty friendly youngster and seems very enthused about getting an adult partner.  Jonathon attends regular classes but he works with a special ed teacher for a couple of hours each day.  He loves BMX racing and he also likes swimming, playing WII games, going to waterparks, camping, fishing, cooking, mini-golfing and bowling.  Jonathon lives with his mom and dad but dad is an over-the-road truck driver who is away from the home for long periods of time.  When dad is home, he usually spends his time sleeping and doesn’t do much with Jonathon.  The ideal partner for Jonathon would be someone who likes to do fun things and could expose Jonathon to some new activities.  Jonathon describes himself as follows:  “I’m young.  Sometimes I’m nice and kind.  I do a lot of work for my mom.”  Jonathon has an older brother who has a very negative attitude.  It would do so much good for Jonathon to be able to get away from home and just have some fun.  Jonathon has been waiting since August of 2009.

 DAVE D:  Dave is a nine-year old 4th grader.  He lives with his mom and his younger brother and he is currently being home-schooled.  Dave is an outgoing, smart, friendly young man.  His favorite activities include bike riding, golfing, bowling, fishing, swimming, playing board games, snowmobiling and music.  Dave’s father lives out of the area and he really would like to have a guy to spend time with and do “guy” activities.  His ideal partner would be someone who is active, likes sports and is kind and patient.  Since Dave is home-schooled, having the opportunity to go out and do things in the community would be a bonus.  He has been on our waiting list since November, 2011.

 BRIAN E:  Brian is a nine-year old fourth grader.  He and his family recently moved to Brainerd.  Brian lives with his mom, dad and an older brother.  Dad works very long hours and does not have time to spend with Brian.   Brian’s favorite class in school is computers and he loves recess.  For fun he enjoys bike riding, roller blading, sledding, bowling, four wheeling, swimming, fishing, playing board and video games, going to movies, talking and taking care of animals/pets.  Brian starts out a little shy but once he gets to know someone, he is pretty friendly and outgoing.  He has been on our waiting list since September, 2011.

 CHELSEA F:  Chelsea is 10-years old and is in the 5th grade.  She lives with her dad and brother and sister east of Brainerd. Chelsea likes school and is a good student.  Her favorite subjects are math and science.  She loves to play outside and she also enjoys swimming, drawing, singing, watching television and playing with animals.  She would love to try playing volleyball, working on arts and crafts and joining Girl Scouts.  Dad said that Chelsea has no friends out of school and would really benefit from spending time with a positive adult female.  Chelsea has been waiting since December of 2010.

 NATALIE F:  Natalie is nine-years old and is in the 3nd grade.  Her favorite subject is math.  Dad says Natalie is talkative, active, bright and likes to have her own way.  The things she enjoys doing for fun include bike riding, skating, sledding, bowling, swimming, playing board games, reading, watching TV and movies and taking care of animals.  She lives with her dad and an older brother and sister.  Natalie has some difficulty in forming friendships and would benefit from spending time with a positive female role-model who is energetic, watchful and playful.  Natalie has been on our waiting list since  December of 2010.

ALEXEA G:  Alexea is a12-year old 7th grader who lives in NE Brainerd with her mom and an older brother.  Alexea is pretty outgoing but she tends to get her feelings hurt easily.  She loves being active and doing activities outside.  Some of her favorite activities include sports, swimming, fishing, yard games, walking, four wheeling, board games, movies, playing with animals, reading, painting and girly activities like doing her hair and makeup.  Alexea’s brother has a Kinship Partner and mom is very supportive of the program.  An ideal partner for Alexea would be someone young, energetic, kind and willing to be firm with her.  Alexea has been waiting since summer, 2010.

 BLAKE H:  Blake is a five-year old kindergartner.  He lives with his mom in North Brainerd.  Blake is a happy, outgoing, active youngster.  He likes to keep busy and some of his favorite activities include sports, bike riding, sledding, snowmobiling and four wheeling, swimming, boating, fishing, drawing, reading, playing board games, watching movies, baking, singing, dancing, listening to music, and playing with animals.  He does spend some time with his grandfather but he needs to have another positive, active male in his life.  He has been on the waiting list since June, 2011.

 SAM H:  Sam is a 7-year old 2nd grader.  He is an only child and lives with his mom.  Sam’s favorite activities include playing sports, fishing, talking, drawing, playing board games and bowling.  He is very imaginative and is fascinated with outer space and machines that can fly.  He also loves art.  Sam would benefit from having a positive adult male who has the time to teach him “guy” things.  The ideal mentor would be someone who knows how to have fun and has energy to do active things.  Someone who can be nurturing but firm would be ideal.  Sam was matched previously but he is back on our waiting list.  He has been waiting since October, 2011.

 BRANDON J:  Brandon is an eight-year old youngster who lives with his mom and younger sister in SE Brainerd.  He had an adult partner for a short time before the adult left the area to attend graduate school and Brandon loved the experience.  He is patiently waiting for another young, fun, active, adult male mentor.  Brandon loves sports – both playing and watching.  He also likes bike riding, bowling, swimming, fishing, painting, playing board and video games, listening to music, and playing with animals.  He likes school and is a pretty good student.  His favorite classes are math, art, writing and having free time.  Brandon was placed back on the waiting list in May, 2011.

 SAM J:  Sam is eight-years old and lives near Pine Center.  He lives with his mom and his older sister.  Since his dad’s death, Sam has been missing male attention.  He would love to have a guy to hang out with.  Sam likes school and especially likes science, gym, music and reading.  For fun, Sam enjoys camping, bike riding, sledding, bowling, four wheeling, swimming, boating, fishing, painting and playing video and board games.  Sam would like to be a train conductor when he grows up.  “I really like art and to eat pizza.  I’m active and like to play with toys,” is how Sam describes himself.  Since he lives so far out of town, mom would be willing to help with transportation so that her son has a chance to spend time with a positive male.  Sam has been waiting since August of 2010.

 DYLAN J:  Dylan is six year old and lives in SE Brainerd with his mom and dad.  He is a friendly youngster who is enjoying kindergarten.  When he grows up he wants to be a firefighter or a policeman.  His favorite activities include fishing, bike riding, bowling, swimming and horseback riding.  His mom and dad do not have a car and they get around by bicycle.  Dylan has no opportunity to get out and do things in the community.  He would benefit greatly from having a caring, nurturing adult who could provide him with opportunities to go out and have fun and take advantage of community activities.  The ideal mentor for him would be someone who is energetic, friendly and nice but also someone who would hold him accountable.  He enrolled in Kinship in October, 2011.

 JESSY J:  Jessy is an energetic 14-year old who lives south of Brainerd.  He currently lives with his mom and older siblings.  Jessy’s dad is in and out of the picture and not someone Jessy can really rely on.  He says he really enjoys outside activities and he likes to do anything that doesn’t involve paperwork!  He is quite talkative but has a slight speech impediment.  Jessy would benefit greatly from being exposed to a variety of new activities and spending time with a positive male.  Jessy would especially like to have a one-on-one partnership with an active, friendly adult.  Jessy has been waiting for a partner since October, 2009.

 JADEN K:  Jaden is eight-years old and is an only child.  He lives in SE Brainerd with his mom.  Jaden is an active youngster who likes to keep busy and he has a variety of interests.  He is friendly and outgoing.  Some of his favorite activities include bike riding, camping, sports, swimming, fishing, playing board games and playing out.  It is hoped that Jaden can be matched with an energetic adult who will be willing to let Jaden know what is acceptable behavior.  Being an only child, Jaden will sometimes push limits with his mom and she would appreciate him having another positive influence in his life.  Jaden has been waiting since May of 2010.

 MIKAYEL K:  Mickey is eight-years old and lives in North Brainerd with her mom and two older sisters.  She is an energetic child and sometimes can be strong-willed.  She is funny and enthusiastic but sometimes can come across as being shy.  Some of her favorite interests include bike riding, swimming, arts and crafts, playing dress-up and playing with animals.  She loves dogs and cats.  She loves school and is doing quite well.  Some one who is in a more settled stage of life who can really commit to a relationship with this youngster would be best.  She has had a lot of changes in her life so a more stable person would be ideal.  Mikayel has been on the waiting list since October of 2010.

ALYSSA K:  Alyssa is a 13-year old who lives with her dad and stepmother just East of Brainerd.  She has three sisters and one brother, all younger.  Alyssa’s mom lives in the cities and has some issues.  Alyssa and her siblings have supervised visits with their mom.  Alyssa is a sweet, friendly youngster with a variety of interests.  She loves sports, gymnastics, cheerleading, outside activities, arts and crafts, singing, dancing, and taking care of animals.  Since she is the oldest child in the family, she would really like to be matched with a younger woman who would be more like a big sister to her.  She describes herself as follows:  “I’m outgoing, talkative, I’m caring, kind, active, like to be out doing things.”  Dad and stepmom think it would be great for Alyssa to be able to be a “kid” rather than being a caretaker so much of the time.  Alyssa has been waiting since December of 2009.

BRITTNI K:  Brittni is 11-years old and she lives with her dad and stepmother East of Brainerd.  She has an older sister, two younger sisters and a younger brother.  Brittni has supervised visits with her mom who lives in the Twin Cities.  Brittni was matched with her Kinship Partner about a year ago, but her partner recently accepted a new job and moved to Chicago.  Brittni and her partner had a wonderful relationship and Brittni is very anxious to get a new partner.  Some of the things she really enjoyed doing with her former partner included cooking, baking, working on art projects, fishing, going to the beach, listening to music, talking and having movie nights.  Brittni is a sweet youngster with a friendly personality.  With so many siblings Brittni would benefit greatly from having a partner where she can have some one-on-one attention.  Brittni has been waiting for a partner since October of 2010.

 SAVANNAH L:  Savannah is a five-year old kindergartner who lives in North Brainerd with her mom.  She attends Lake Region Christian School.  She is a little shy at first but once she feels comfortable, she becomes more talkative and friendly.  She would like to learn how to climb trees.  Her favorite things to do for fun include playing at the park, swimming, bike riding (with training wheels) and playing with animals.  She would like a Kinship Partner who is nice and would want to make cookies with her.  Savannah has been waiting for a partner since August, 2011.

 BRIANNA M:  Brianna is nine-years old and is in the 4th grade at Baxter Elementary School.  She lives with her adoptive parents and four siblings.  Brianna has a lot of anger toward her adoptive family and it is felt that it would be a positive experience for her to be matched with an adult who could provide her with one-on-one time.  Brianna would benefit greatly by building a healthy relationship with her Kinship Partner.  Her favorite subjects in school are gym and music.  For fun, she enjoys bike riding, figure skating, swimming, drawing, writing arts and crafts, music and playing with animals.  She participates in gymnastics.  She would love to make spaghetti with her Kinship Partner.  Brianna has been waiting for a partner since April, 2011.

TAYLOR R:  Taylor is 11-years old and is in the 6th grade.  He is an easy-going youngster whose favorite activities include fishing, hunting and playing video games.  His favorite subjects in school are science and biology.  He lives with his mom and a younger brother and sister.  He describes himself as being “shy, happy and friendly.”  An adult male with good morals who is patient, understanding and a good listener would be an ideal partner for Taylor.  Taylor was matched with a young man for about a year until the adult moved out of the area.  Taylor thoroughly enjoyed that experience and is willing to be matched again.  He has been back on our waiting list since November of 2010.

 SAMMY S:  Sammy is a five-year old kindergartner.  He lives with his mom and stepdad just north of Brainerd.  He is a little shy when first meeting someone, but once he is comfortable, he becomes more talkative and friendly.  He has a short attention span so someone who can provide a variety of short-term activities would be desirable.  Sammy appears to be somewhat immature for his age so someone who is patient would be best.  Some of Sammy’s favorite activities include bike riding, sledding, swimming, fishing, yard games, drawing, cooking/baking, playing board and video games, and playing with animals.  He has been waiting for a partner since August, 2011.

 SPENCER S:  Spencer is a 10-year old fifth grader.  He lives in NE Brainerd with his mom.  He has never had a relationship with his biological dad.  He doesn’t especially like school but he does like social studies, gym and music.  He is very interested in cars and someday would like to have a job that has “something to do with cars.”  Spencer loves sports and was involved in BYAA football.   He also loves BMX bike riding.  Some of his other interests include baseball, soccer, sledding,  bowling, snowmobiling, boating, fishing, drawing, reading, going to museums, watching TV and movies, talking, listening to music and playing with animals.  He has been waiting for a partner since April, 2011.

 CYNTHIA T:  Cyndi is a 10-year old fifth grader.  She lives with her mom and younger brother in SE Brainerd.  She recently suffered the loss of her father.  Cyndi is a pleasant, friendly young girl. She loves school and loves all of her teachers.  Her favorite subjects are math and recess.  She like to have a Kinship Partner so she would have someone to “hang out with.”  Cyndi lists the things she does best as, “track, soccer, snowmobiling, swimming and horseback riding.”  She would love to try camping and doing arts and crafts.  Some other things she enjoys include skating, sledding, swimming, drawing, painting, music and taking care of animals.  She would like to be matched with a woman who is nice, active, likes to swim and who would be willing to talk to her about the loss of her father.  Cyndi describes herself as follows:  “I’m respectful, nice, active, sensitive and artistic.”  She has been on our waiting list since September, 2011.

SPENCER T:  Spencer is an eight-year old second grader.  He lives in SE Brainerd with his mom and older sister.  He suffers from hearing loss but is quite good at reading lips.  Spencer is described as being very active and he tends to get anxious in situations where there is a lot of commotion and noise.  He sometimes has trouble making friends because he angers easily.  He enjoys helping others.  Some of his favorite activities include skate boarding, swimming, fishing, computers and art.  Spencer’s father dies this past summer and he really would benefit from having a patient, kind, energetic man in his life.  He has been on our waiting list since September, 2011.
