Our Programs... Match of the Month Congratulations to Dave LeBlanc and Zac Bestul, Kinship Partners’ newest Match of the Month. Zac and Dave have been hanging out and having fun for over four years. Dave and Zac find all kinds of things to do to have
fun. Some of Zac’s favorite
times with Dave include tossing around a football, playing games and
shooting at targets. He has
learned how to shoot Dave’s crossbow.
When asked how he feels about Dave, Zac stated, “He’s awesome!” Dave finds his experience with Kinship Partners and with Zac to be very enjoyable. Dave states, “Zac is like the son I never had.” Although they’ve had a lot of fun over the years, one of Dave’s highlights is when he allowed Zac to drive his truck out in the field. Nothing solidifies a friendship more than enjoying shared activities, memories and fun. Way to go Dave and Zac! We’re proud to honor you as our Match of the Month.
Kinship Partners is proud to honor Kalee Nelson and Stephanie VanWyngeeren as
our newest Match of the Month. For
three years this twosome has enjoyed time together whether it be shopping,
playing at the lake, snowmobiling or “just hanging out.” Steph states that
she can’t really remember a time without Kalee. She
has become such a part of the family and she has developed relationships with
Steph’s extended family, too. Steph
feels that Kalee appreciates the time she spends with her and the activities
they do together. Steph and her husband, Grant, are the
proud parents of five-month old Arend and Kalee has quickly grown to love
him. Kalee says she
enjoys having Steph as a partner and is thankful that she’s become part of her
family. She loves their
weekly outings and she appreciates having someone she trusts when she needs to
talk. Kalee goes on to
say, “Steph has made a great impact on my life.” Congratulations Kalee and Steph. We know you will enjoy many more years as Kinship Partners and friends. Kinship Partners is pleased to recognize Kathy Serfling, Breezy Point, and Trevor Birr, Pine River, as its August Match of the Month. Kathy became acquainted with Trevor and his family when he was a preschooler and enrolled in Early Childhood classes. As a school Para-professional, Kathy worked with Trevor who had been diagnosed on the autism spectrum. They became Kinship Partners three years ago and Trevor has been an important addition to the Serfling family. Kathy says she became a
partner because her own children were busy.
“They are growing up.
I need to be needed.”
Because of her prior involvement with Trevor and having an
understanding of autism, they have been the perfect match.
They enjoy going to movies, eating meals together, playing
mini-golf and bowling, and huddling on the couch to watch Sponge Bob
cartoons. Trevor is very
protective of Kathy and she chuckles that if someone jokes around with
her and he doesn’t find it funny, he reminds them to be nicer to her!
He tells Kathy that she is a part of his family and she agrees he
is part of hers. Trevor admits he likes having “a really good friend”
like Kathy. One time he
took Kathy and her family out for a pizza date with a gift certificate
he had received. He has
also accompanied the Serfling clan to school sports events and banquets.
Trevor’s mom believes Kathy is truly a family friend and offers
her son positive adult interaction and unique socialization
opportunities. Congratulations, Kathy and Trevor! A relationship that began in preschool has continued to influence and comfort Trevor as he enters 4th grade. As he grows older and his needs may change, Kathy plans to be there every step of the way.
