Being a Kinship mentor is easy
I had
known about the Kinship Partners program for about 20 years and
always admired the good work it was doing. Like a lot of people
though, I didn't feel I had the time to devote to being a Kinship
mentor with my busy schedule. About a year and a half ago, I decided
becoming a mentor could happen if I just made time for it. I called
Kinship, got my partner about a month later, and have never
regretted the decision.
What is amazing about being a Kinship mentor is how easy and how
much fun it is. My buddy and I do a variety of things together. For
those partners who like group activities, Kinship is always
sponsoring fun get-togethers. We have participated in ice fishing,
mini-golf, shooting archery and BB guns with the Boy Scouts, FRED
events, and float building. Although the group activities are always
fun, most of what we do is go out to my home and do guy stuff. We
work in the garden, build deer stands, change oil in the car, hike
in the woods with the dogs, cross-country ski, prepare and eat
meals, read books, and play games.
I have been truly blessed by my time with my partner, and I hope
more Brainerd area citizens will consider becoming a Kinship
Partner. Your efforts will return to you many times over.

My daughter found a
friend
I signed my daughter up for Kinship Partners last spring, after a
separation from my husband at the time. This was a difficult and
confusing time for her. She was put on a waiting list, and to my
surprise, not long after signing her up, we got a call from Kinship
Partners. They told me that a woman had read an article about my
daughter, who was waiting for the perfect partner.
This woman (Charlotte) said that when she read about this little
girl, something told her that this was the one. We met right away
and the two of them clicked immediately. Charlotte and her family
have brought so much joy and happiness into my daughters life. She
is doing 100 percent better than where she was almost a year ago.
Charlotte and her entire family were an answer to our prayers. They
treat my daughter and myself like we are part of the family, and
they have enriched my daughters life to fill that void.
Thanks to Kinship Partners, my daughter has found a new life long
friend. I would encourage Kinship Partners to others for their
children. It is a wonderful thing they do, and I encourage folks out
there to be a mentor and make a difference in a childs life. It did
for my child. Thank you and God bless!
