It
is another year and time for Gary Walters to
do something stupid. As in years past, Gary
is going to attempt a feat he has never done before
in an effort to raise money and inspire people to become
mentors for children who are in need.
So the feat you
ask? He and some friends are going to attempt
to swim across Mille Lacs without the aid of
a motor, paddle or fins. We are not sure
how long this effort is going to take, but he is jumping
into the water on August 16, 2006 (weather
permitting) and he will keep on swimming until he has
made it across the entire lake (with the occasional
stop for refreshments, rest and oxygen).
We
understand that there may be some doubt about the ability
of a short, fat, somewhat out-of-shape, middle aged
man's ability to successfully complete this quest; but
don't bet against him. In the past three years
Gary has ridden his bike from New Orleans to Brainerd,
sat on the old Brainerd water tower around the clock
for 9 days and walked with his children across the entire
state of Minnesota!! |
